Southern Ideal Home Show & Attic Sale

Twice a year, Spring and Fall, the Triangle NC Chapter participates in the Southern Ideal Home Show at the NC State Fairgrounds by having a Designer's Attic Sale. Members bring their overstock items, merchandise that didn't work for clients, donated goods, etc. for show attendees to purchase. Five percent of the proceeds are donated to Habitat for Humanity and another 5% goes to the chapter. At the end of the show, a large number of items are donated to Passage Home of Wake County. This is a fun time for those who participate and a great way to get to know fellow chapter members. A lot of hard work, but well worth the effort.

Habitat for Humanity

In honor of the tenth year since the founding of our chapter we decided to carry through with this commitment by donating time, expertise, money and products to Habitat for Humanity. Through this worthwhile organization we have been working with Karen Patillo, a new Habitat homeowner in Orange County.

Triangle NC Chapter donated the paints used for the house, and other chapter members donated beds, accessories, and flooring. In addition, Triangle NC bought the dishwasher with monies brought in from our Attic Sales. Chapter members Linda Zoffer, Audrey Barnhill, & Dyan Nemetz-McCleery walked the homeowner through many ups and downs while decorating & getting the home ready to occupy. Two weeks before Christmas 2006, Karen’s house was filled to overflowing with family, friends and devoted volunteers and staff from Habitat for the blessing and dedication of her new home.

Sixth Annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Dream Home Fundraiser

IDS Triangle NC Chapter participated in the Sixth Annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Foundation Dream Home Fundraiser, sponsored by New Homes and Ideas magazine. The NHI Dream Home was on display during the Parade of Homes (October 1-16, 2005). We designed the large, multi-level family room and home office of a 15,000 sq. ft. home. Builder - John Baldwin, Baldwin Homes Inc. Location - Wakefield Plantation - Rosemount. All furnishings and household items found in the home were placed in a silent auction during the Parade with proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Mordecai House of Raleigh

We are proud of Triangle NC members who have spent many hours of volunteer service bringing life to the Mordecai House of Raleigh

Many aspects of the redesign, including draperies, re-upholstery fabrics, carpets, and accessories, were accomplished through fund raising efforts of the Chapter. In conjunction with Capital Area Preservation, the group held a candlelight Christmas buffet as well as an art and gift auction. Many of the items were donated by members themselves. The Triangle NC Chapter raised over $15,000 for the necessary changes.

For this project, we were awarded the Anthemion Historic Preservation Award in 2005 for the Mordecai House Interior Furnishings Plan. Research was done to provide period pieces for the redesign of a Raleigh landmark. Members have also used talent to decorate the home for Christmas for several years.

Andrews London House

In 1997 & 1998, the still young IDS Triangle NC Chapter participated in an ambitious project of refurbishing the Andrews-London House in Raleigh. This historic building is home to the Capital Area Visitor Center. Ten of our members acquired over $45,000 in antiques, furniture & accessories, and donated over $30,000 in volunteered design services.

Once referred to as “the grand old lady with her slip showing,” the Capital Area Visitor Center has put on her Sunday best.
